This John Maclean character, he’s not a character at all… but a man. A smart man.

I remember an interview with him where he talked about his exit from Six Finger Satellite and said something along the lines of “‘Where do you go after making Law of Ruins’”?

Indeed. Law of Ruins is easily the best record of the 90′s… and STILL the most misunderstood record by fans of the band (the problem there being, those fans continue to be ROCK fans… so a record that’s sings its deathknell is a pill not easily swallowed) and unappreciated by the public at large. If the rediscovery of the band in 2000′s is any indication, this too will eventually change… when mop-headed hipsters quit trying to ape the sound of Severe Exposure (which they do a poor job of doing) and move towards that of Law of Ruins (which they won’t be replicate in any way, shape, form OR history).

Me? Personally, I think that the record, along with the work of US Maple, were a great end to my interest in rock music. I thank John for his genius work with 6FS (hearing what the band became… and has done recently… leaves little doubt in my mind who was the brains of the operation) and follow his solo work with glee…

Though personally, he should have never chosen a name that’s referential in nature… bad move, comrade. Ahhhh… but if gets one person to check out those Infiniti records (speaking of unsung masterpieces… Skynet is overdue) Atikins did in the 90′s, then I guess I can’t hate on it.

That is by far the best formed comment I have received on anythin I have posted :)

I really need to give Law or Ruins a good listen, and pick up some US Maple stuff. I remember listening to US Maple at a friend’s, but never picked up copies for myself. There are too many bands that have fallen off my radar, and it is interesting that there continue to be bands like Six Finger Satellite that are only now getting on it.
