What is going on?

It is late and I need to sleep. I doubt anyone is up late reading this, but I need to post this for posterity.

For some reason, at the end of 2007, I thought it was a good idea to consolidate my blog with another blog I was running, called RockitBomb. Call it streamlining, call it lazy, I don’t care, but I was tired of my eye twitching whenever I was trying to decide what blog to publish to. At the time I had also started a blog for my day job, so I was looking at three blogs to maintain.

I had a conversation with fellow (at the time) RockitBomb blogger, Matt Chandler regarding what was going on with the site, as I had intended it to be a music site, and that was not what we where writing. My vision was specifically a music vodcast, and after a seat of the pants excursion into audio podcasting (due to my lack of time for video) that primarily focused on reviews of shows that didn’t need reviewed, I was tired of talking about music, and found myself writing about comics and movies and gadgets, and Matt had since digressed into really well written posts about life in general, but not about music.

So, we decided, WTF, let’s just keep on keeping on. That is what we did for pretty much all of 2008, until after a few conversations with colleagues and friends, and inexplicably finding myself doing interview podcasts again.* About this same time, Matt asked me to set up a new MYSQL database for him to mess around with wordpress, and in the process of messing around, pretty much built himself a new house.

The timing was perfect, and after thinking on some of the feedback I had received regarding RockitBomb, it occurred to me that I have been trying to kitchen sink to much into that site. It is a podcast. Rob G. and I are going to do a weekly post, and the posts on that site are going to be about music and the show, and not much else. That is my goal. Please come here for all of my other ramblings, etc., as I have realized that I also need a more breathable space here to talk about whatever I want to. So for now, I found a good theme, and I have moved over most of the relevant posts from RockitBomb, and tried not to leave too many dupes, but some of them I like in both places, and well, it is my blog.

Thanks!

Brian

*Seriously, I don’t know what happened, I went to a show, and the next think I know I am recording We Are Hex and asking for an interview.

Interview with Corey Warning of The Graduate – new episode

The Graduate is one of those bands that are poised to take over the world. They are hard touring troubadors with talent, and Rob and I had a chance to talk to Corey Warning (Yes, that is his real named, listen all the way through the show for some name-related outtakes) for this week’s episode of RockitBomb.

We have 3 (Yes, 3!) tracks from the band. Rob and I talk to Corey about all three tracks and learn some things about the band’s past and influences. If you are a fan of U2, No Knife, Cave In, and or The Dismemberment Plan, I think you will find something to like in this week’s episode. Be sure to pick up their new re-released full length, Andehonia (Revisitied) in November if you like what you hear.

Monotonix and Call Me Lightning – RockitBomb episode 10

Trying to make up for lost time – a double header interview with live tracks from Monotonix and Call Me Lightning. I was fortunate to see these two great bands at the Melody in on September 22nd. Brian Allen and Tony Beemer of Thunders join me for the interview.

The show was great, and the live tracks came out okay, take a listen. If you get a chance to see either band please do. I was not expecting to go to this show, hence the delay in getting the episode out, but technical problems with last week’s show and some scheduling problems with this week get you an awesome double header.

Enjoy.

I shot some video, but it was terrible, so I will use someone else’s:

This Week's Episode

In case anyone is wondering where this week’s episode of RockitBomb is:

Rob G. and I recorded a show Wednesday, but apparently my power inverter in my car causes a nice feedback him into the recorder I use, so I have been working in cleaning up a Monotonix and Call Me lightning interview.

It will longer than normal, but have some live tracks, and in my opinion is way better than listening to two guys try to find something nice to say about a show that couldn’t keep their attention from Twitterific.

It should be up this weekend, this week has been busy for me, which is a lame exscuse, but it’s all I got.
